Started my day with a workout and then rushed to get Grace and I ready for the Ladies Bible study at church. I had about 40 minutes max to get us showered, dressed, fed and out the door. Keep in mind Grace got to bed late the night before and is not an easy one to wake up in the mornings(like her Mom used to be :)). Tuesday mornings are always a blurr for me. We returned home about 2 hours later. It was a beautiful day here and I just wanted to be outside to enjoy the nice weather. Lots to be done inside and out but chose to throw caution to the wind and work outside. The grass had grown to look like a small pasture showing our neglect from other evening commitments. Our push mower was out of gas so I borrowed my neighbor's riding mower since the push mower would probably not have made it through anyway. I worked on edging, pulled weeds etc. Grace was having fun playing in the sand box and jumping on the trampoline.
Late in the afternoon we were invited to friends for dinner. Grant was gone for a meeting and would not be home until late. So we were delighted with the offer.
After returning home from dinner we noticed that our garage door was up which I distinctly remember putting down. Stopped for a second but then went on inside to get the kids ready for bed. They needed showers/baths so I asked Caleb to go up and start bath water for Grace. He returned just a minute later with a scared look on his face. "Mom, I can't get the bathroom door open, something or someone is holding the door shut." Uggh....think Tami, think! Okay, Caleb get Grace and go over to the next door neighbors and ask if Mr Fudge could come over for a minute. I kept my cool but felt a sense of fear wondering if someone was in our house. Mr Fudge graciously offered to check it out for us. Would you believe the door jam was just stuck!!! That has never happened before. Turns out the two neighbor boys put the garage door up to get a basketball while we were gone and didn't know how to put it down when they left.
But then Mr Fudge suggested walking through the rest of the house just to make sure noone was hiding. UGGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Do you Remember caution to the wind? As I walked with him through every room....evidence that we had done absolutely nothing since leaving the house that morning. Caleb's bed was the only bed made. Bless his heart! Gracie's breakfast tray still sitting in front of the tv. Naked Barbie dolls were EVERYWHERE! Did I mention NAKED!!!! It was like I was seeing Barbies in 3D.
Makeup all over the counter, toothpaste in the sinks and worst of all, my underwear right in the middle of the floor. Not Grants but MINE! I think my face was 10 shades of red as I tried to kick them behind the door. Keep in mind that these are NEW neighbors too.
I thought everyone would enjoy this and get a good laugh as they pictured my mess. Lesson for me...walk in humility, walk in truth. I am not defined by the condition of my house. :)

Oh Tami! I am laughing! Naked Barbies and your pretty panties for all to see! You SURE DID have an UNEXPECTED visitor!!!!
I was holding my breath as I began reading of your 'scare'. All I could think of was the Dec. day that I came home from picking you and my kids up from school, walking into my house to find we had been robbed in broad daylight! (and his footprints were in the snow leading from our house to PennVale!) But then I burst out laughing at your description of '3D Barbies'! Hey, the so called mess just proves that the house is lived in. NO ONE IS PERFECT, but I know you young mothers try to be! I love you!!
PS-sure glad everything's okay!
Tami, that is so funny! What a great post! Sometimes you just need to have days like that...it puts things in perspective. So what about the messy house? Naked barbies and underwear on the floor? That's just life. More importantly, however, you were able to enjoy your day and have fun with your kids! That's what is important!
